Epoch Time Converter

Convert Unix epoch timestamps to human-readable dates and convert dates back to epoch — with Grafana-friendly millisecond handling.

Use either direction independently. Epoch units can be detected automatically, or overridden when you know the source format.

Epoch time in DevOps

Unix epoch time measures time from 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC. Infrastructure tools may represent it in seconds, milliseconds, microseconds or nanoseconds.

Grafana tip

Grafana custom time ranges and dashboard URLs commonly expose millisecond timestamps. Current millisecond timestamps are usually 13 digits, while Unix seconds are usually 10 digits. Auto detection handles common contemporary values, and the unit selector lets you override the guess.

Common timestamp lengths

Seconds~10 digits
Milliseconds~13 digits
Microseconds~16 digits
Nanoseconds~19 digits

UTC vs local time

An epoch timestamp represents an instant and does not contain a timezone. The converter shows UTC and your browser-local representation. In the reverse direction, choose whether the entered wall-clock time should be interpreted as browser local time or UTC.

Automatic detection is a convenience

Very old dates or unusual values can be ambiguous. Use the explicit unit selector whenever the source tells you the timestamp unit.
